Welcome to Whangarei Intensive Care Unit

Yesterday’s audit meeting was a great success and a testament to the work put in by the current Regs in data collection over such an uncertain time.

As we bid farewell to some of them we wish them well in their future careers and look forward to welcoming some new Regs next week

On Monday morning our Regs will be showcasing the hard work everyone on the unit has put in over the last few months by presenting their audits!

Whangarei ICU is now accredited for training in ICM, this is in no small part down to the hard work put in by Dr Katherine Perry , our current HOD.

We look forward to welcoming trainees on the ICM programme to Whangarei.

It’s December again and we welcome three new Registrars and one ‘old face’ back to the unit!

Welcome to Dhan, Sang, Andrew and (welcome back) Ruth! Not forgetting Shannon, Euan and Andrea who we are very happy to have stay with us!

The ICU audit meeting will be held in the ICU seminar room, this Thursday 22/11/18.

Starting at 0930 it is a chance for our Registrars to show off all the hard work they have been doing in the last 6 months.

Topics to be presented include:

Outcome of elderly patients admitted to critical care

Whangarei ICU referral data audit

Delirium and sedation in the ICU

Intrathecal Morphine administration in elderly & comorbid patients leading to ICU admission

Audit of booked post op HDU admissions

It is with great sadness that we learnt of the death of Dr Peter Hicks, the clinical lead of Wellington ICU. Peter was known to many of our staff and his passing will be a great loss both to Wellington and the wider Critical Care community.

Our heartfelt sympathies go out to Peter’s family, friends and colleagues.

Drs Blair, Jang and Meyer are traveling to Hobart next week for the CICM ASM. It looks like it’s going to be a great meeting & (with a few tutorials!) we hope to be tweeting away!

On Tuesday the 15th May 2018 we were one of the study sites for the DecubICUs point prevalence study into pressure areas in critical care. Thanks to all who helped with data collection on the day. Look forward to some interesting results!
